Ezekiel 1:26 26.  And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.(KJV)  We see in God's word that the firmament was over their heads and had an appearance of a sapphire stone. Here we have a description of how brilliant the color was. It was like a sapphire stone.

Above we have a picture of a pink sapphire stone. So this must be what the verse is referring to as to what the firmament (the sky) looked like before Noah's Flood.

Job 37:18, 18.  Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

Daniel 12:3, 3.  And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

Psalm 19:1, 1.  The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

Psalm 150:1, 1.  Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

We have the description of the firmament in Ezekiel, job and Daniel, and in Psalms we have the connection of the firmament and God and his power to create. The second part of the verse in Daniel 12:3 refers to those who turn many to righteousness (salvation). And then it refers to the ones who do this as the stars that will be forever an ever (eternity).

Where did the first light in creation come from?

This question is probably been the hardest question for anyone to answer. Why? Because we as humans, always look for a physical answer and forget that God is spiritual. In order to understand the picture above, you first have to understand that there are three heavens. Now you might get confused, so before I quote the verse that supports this, I need to explain how the word heaven is being used in God's word. The word heaven is like a separate universe that exists. So what are the three heavens?

Heaven one: Is the heaven we can see, and contains all physical objects that God created (earth, other planets and stars, it is our atmosphere, and space). Including life.

Heaven two: Is a spiritual universe that is referred to as darkness (meaning evil). It contains Satan, his fallen angels, hell, and everyone in hell. It was created when God divided the light during the first light creation (this will be explained later in more detail). Here are the verses to confirm darkness to evil, and hell.

mt 8:12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

mt 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

mt 25:30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

When ever darkness is mentioned in God's word. You have to look for hints that the darkness mentioned is either a reference to the spiritual (evil), or the physical (just being dark). Or in some cases, both. In the three verses above, you have spiritual hints (in green) to darkness mentioned here, as a reference to evil. If a spiritual hint like this is not given, then the word darkness is just a reference to having no physical light. Such as the difference between night and day.

Heaven three: This is where God and His angels are. This is "THE HEAVEN". This heaven is also referred to as light (meaning good). Here is a verse that shows the separation between light (good) and darkness (evil) in the spiritual heaven.

1 John 1: 5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

This is the heaven Satan wanted to set his throne above.

Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Verse 13 shows that God's heaven is above Satan's. Verse 14 shows that Satan's heaven is confined to the earth. Because Satan has to ascend above the clouds of the earth. Verse 12 confirms this as well. Satan was cast to the ground. Not into space, or another planet. For it is also said that he has weakened the nations. And there is only one planet with life, that has nations. Now for the verse that confirms the three heavens.

2cor 12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.

Also, if you do a word search on these two words: heaven and heavens, at the same time. You will find a phrase used that also confirms three heavens. Heaven and the heaven of heavens. This is mentioned several times in God's word. And it confirms the three heavens just by mentioning it three times. So why is God's Heaven the third heaven, and not the first or second? In bible numerology, the number three means: Three is the number of resurrection, Divine completeness and perfection. And three is the second most used number by God, seven is the most used number. So from all of this so far, we have confirmed the existence of the three heavens. Now for the explanation of the picture above, and what was happening during the first light creation. Before we can continue, we first have to understand a spiritual law.

1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Remember when I said earlier that Satan's heaven was about darkness, and God's Heaven was about light? This verse confirms this separation. God is light, and He cannot contain any darkness. Light and darkness, are references to good and evil, when the spiritual heavens are being addressed. When the physical heaven is being addressed, it's just day and night. It is this separation that will make creation more clear to understand (because it explains where the form and void is). So where did the first light come from? According to 1 John 1:5, God is light. Which explains where the first light came from when the sun or moon had not been created yet. But is there a verse that reconfirms God's light?

Revelation 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.

25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.

These verses not only confirm where the first light came from, but why it had to be divided. When God said: Let there be light, God's light was shining in two heavens at the same time. Heaven three (God's heaven), and heaven one (our physical heaven). Why did this happen? For God to create the second heaven (satan's heaven), His light needed to shine in the first two. Here are the reasons for this.

1) It had to shine in the first heaven (our physical heaven) because Satan's heaven (second heaven) would be confined to the earth. This is why Satan is called the prince of the air: eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

2) Because Satan's heaven is a spiritual heaven, it had to be created by spiritual light. Thus the reason God's light shined before natural light.

3) Because God's light shined in heaven one and three (Ours and God's), What God commanded it to do took on a dual meaning (what happened in heaven one, had to also happen in heaven three). So when God divided the light, in heaven one (our physical heaven) it made day and night. In heaven three, a spiritual division was taking place. Darkness was being created in the spiritual heaven, and since God cannot have darkness in "His" light. What represented darkness (evil), had to be put into this darkness and "separated from God". This is when Satan was confined to his spiritual heaven that exist on earth as quoted in this verse: Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!... And he became the prince of the air (eph 2:2). So upon separation of God's light, the second heaven was created in the spiritual heaven, and day and night were created in our physical heaven.

So what is the light of God?

Revelation 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the "glory of God" did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
God's glory is God's light. God's glory is all that God is.

---------------------

Side note:  But, can "only" the glory of God lighten the earth?

rev 18:1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

So here we see that even angels can have glory powerful enough to bring light unto the earth,

---------------------

So what does all this answer?

1) That God was creating more than what we can see.

2) The form and void problem (which is used by  those who believe old earth). Was not soley, a unfinished part of creation, with the earth. But also included a unfinished part of creation in the spiritual heaven as well.

3) How Satan got on earth before Adam and Eve. For he was here to tempt Eve.

4) Why the word "heaven" (singular), is used all through creation in Genesis 1. But becomes "heavens" (plural) in Genesis 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

--------------------

Side note: "Heaven" (singular) is mentioned 7 times (God's perfect number). Before the word "heavens" (plural) is used (Genesis 2:1).

gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

gen 1:8 And God called the firmament heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

gen 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

gen 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

gen 1:15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

gen 1:17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

gen 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

Here's a flow chart on light creation that might make it more understood.
